Nail Salon UV Lamps Don’t Cause Skin Cancer
We looove getting our nails done. (Um, what girl doesn’t?!) So, we’re ecstatic about this news.
According to a new study, researchers have determined that the UV lamps used to dry your polish in nail salons will not cause skin cancer. Previously, some scientists thought that the lamps could increase your odds of developing melanoma, but it had never been proven.
Thankfully, researchers discovered that the lamps do not release a harmful amount of UV rays as say, a tanning bed. …Which you should be staying away from, btw.
From the study results, scientists determined that you would need to have 13,000 to 40,000 nail-drying sessions, or 250 years of weekly manicures, to increase your chance of getting skin cancer. Of course, it never hurts to slather on sunscreen before you hit the nail salon (actually, before you leave the house), since UV rays can still age your skin.

Holiday feasting doesn’t mean you have to plump up like a Thanksgiving turkey. Yes you can nosh on stuffing, chocolate and wine and still shed some poundage. Nutritionist Robert Ferguson, author of Diet-Free For Life, weighs in on how to lose weight during the holidays.

Start your holiday with coffee or tea. Studies have shown that waking up with caffeine helps you burn 85 more to 100 more calories that day.
Does Mitt Romney have a ‘women problem’?
A controversial comment by a Republican about rape and abortion has shone a light on Mitt Romney’s trouble attracting women voters. France24.com asked experts and strategists on both the left and the right to weigh in.
It was supposed to be all about the economy
But the 2012 US presidential election took an unexpected turn when Republican congressman Todd Akin, articulating his strict anti-abortion stance, said that in cases of “legitimate rape”, a woman’s body “has ways” of not getting pregnant.
The comments provoked fury on the left and embarrassment on the right, dragging abortion, women’s reproductive rights, and gender issues back into an increasingly nasty campaign battle.
The controversy has shone a harsh light on the Republican party’s struggle to gain the support of women, an electoral reality that could prevent candidate Mitt Romney from getting to the White House; recent polls show President Barack Obama with a 10-point lead over his rival among female voters.

Obama on the attack in final debate against Romney
Specifically, the remarks about abortion and rape have forced Romney and running mate Paul Ryan to clarify their positions on the matter, especially since they don’t precisely match up: Romney has said abortion should be legal in cases of rape or incest, whereas Ryan has expressed across-the-board opposition, with no exceptions (the same position endorsed by Republicans for the official party platform to be voted on at the convention).
France24.com took a survey of analysts and operatives on both sides of the political divide for their take on the potential impact of Akin’s comment, and women’s issues in general, on the election in November.

The controversy can only increase a large gender gap that, right now, is giving President Obama a slim edge over Mitt Romney. Women back Obama to a greater degree than men back Romney. Akin’s indefensible comments make it harder for the GOP to close the gap with women voters. This was poorly timed for the Republicans, and that’s the understatement of the election year. Romney has already been struggling with women. Even though he made clear his disagreement with Akin, the controversy will harden gender lines in this election.
Karlyn Bowman, senior fellow at the right-leaning American Enterprise Institute:
The economy and jobs remain the most important issue in this election. Women’s reproductive health and abortion issues rank very near the bottom of the list in terms of voters’ concerns. That said, the Obama campaign needs to increase turnout among single women, and it is possible that reproductive health issues could resonate with this group. Unmarried women (includes singles, divorced, and widowed voters) voted 70 percent for Obama in 2008, but they did not turn out in significant numbers in 2010 [midterm elections for Congress]. In a close election you use whatever ammunition you have and the campaign has been trying to use these reproductive health issues to get these women to turn out.
Akin’s remarks are clearly way out of the mainstream which is why so many Republicans are urging him to get out of the race. It is going to fester for awhile.

The more time Republicans spend talking about reproductive issues, the less time they will have to hit Obama on high unemployment. If the debate centers on abortion, it is hard to see Republicans winning. They are alienating the women’s vote and losing support among young people and suburban voters.
Romney is seeking to distance himself from Akin’s abortion comments, but Paul Ryan opposes abortions in cases of rape and incest so it will be hard for Republicans not to get drawn into this debate.

Abortion wouldn’t have been a major issue in the election if Republicans hadn’t made it one. They are captive to their socially conservative base .This is a problem for Mitt Romney. Women don’t like him anyway, and his flip flops on reproductive rights only widen the gender gap. Women do like Barack Obama, both personally and as president.

What Akin said was wrong and absolutely offensive, but Romney and Republican leaders responded in strong fashion. I don’t think it’s going to have any impact in the larger election. As we move into the convention and beyond, you’re going to find that the gap between Obama and Romney in support among women will close. Lots of people are unemployed. People need jobs. That’s what this election is about.
The Obama administration is happy this came along. It lets them take the focus off the economy, so they will try to keep this issue alive as long as they can. But I expect that something will be done or said in or around the Republican convention that puts an end to the whole thing.

Women have less time to spent on business activities. They have to pay much attention on home itself . Also they are less movable than men. They can’t travel long distances & stay nights outside home .
No motivation
They are lacking the support and motivation from family members and general public. Specially men are becoming against women entrepreneurs by using their full strength.

THE PROBLEM
There is a crisis of representation in the media. We live in a racially and ethnically diverse nation that is 51% female, but the news media itself remains staggeringly limited to a single demographic.
The media is the single most powerful tool at our disposal; it has the power to educate, effect social change, and determine the political policies and elections that shape our lives. Our work in diversifying the media landscape is critical to the health of our culture and democracy.
Consider the Following Statistics
- According to the Global Media Monitoring Project 2010, 24% of the people interviewed, heard, seen, or read about in mainstream broadcast and print news were female. Only 13% of stories focused specifically on women and 6% on issues of gender equality or inequality. What’s more, news stories by female reporters are almost twice as likely to challenge gender stereotypes than stories by male reporters and the stories feature female subjects and topics that matter to women.
- In addition, women were the news subjects for only 23% of stories on 84 news websites monitored — this suggests that underrepresentation of women in the virtual news world is as dramatic as in the traditional news media.
- Even at National Public Radio – considered an industry leader in engaging female correspondents and hosts – women represented only 26% of the sources in 2010.
- The 2011 “Heavy Hundred” “most important radio talk show hosts in America,” selected by the editors of Talkers magazine with input from industry leaders, included only 13 solo women hosts and three women who co-host shows with men.
- Women represented just over one-fifth (21.7%) of guests on Sunday morning news talk shows airing on NBC, CBS, ABC, CNN, and Fox News in 2011 according to American University School of Public Affairs Women and Politics Institute.
- Women are a small minority in key sports news occupations with virtually no change over three years according to studies for the Associated Press Sports Editors (conducted by Lapchick et al. in 2008 and 2011). In 2011, just 11.4% of sports editors, 10% of sports columnists, and 7% of sports reporters were women.
- According to the Center for the Study of Women in Television and Film at San Diego State University, women accounted for 25% of all creators, executive producers, producers, directors, writers, editors, and directors of photography working on situation comedies, dramas, and reality programs airing on the broadcast networks in the 2010-11 prime-time television season. Among writers, just 15% were women; of directors, just 11% were women; and of directors of photography, just 4% were women.
- The same study also found that in 2011, women comprised 18% of all directors, executive producers, producers, writers, cinematographers, and editors working on the top 250 domestic grossing films. Women comprised just 5% of directors, 15% of writers, and 4% of cinematrographers.
Advice for Men: How to Survive a PMSing Woman
Although women have to deal with the pain and discomfort of PMS, men often find themselves at the receiving end of everything that comes with it. For about one week before her period, she will seem almost like a different person. While this may not be fair to you, understand that many women try to keep the symptoms controlled.
Some of the symptoms that approximately 85% of women experience include depression, mood swings, irritability, feeling tired and cravings. All women do not have the same levels of PMS; some have it more severe than others and it can vary from month to month. As a man you will never know what it’s really like, but try to understand that she doesn’t want to feel miserable and, chances are, doesn’t like that you have to deal with it.
We don’t like it and neither do you but, if you help us, it will help you. If you are one of the many men that have zero idea what to do when the woman in your life is PMSing, there are certain things to say and do that will help you make it out alive.
Don’t bring up that she’s PMSing… Ever
Chances are she doesn’t realize how bad she is. We know we’re PMSing and pointing it out to us will make us visualize you sporting a big bulls-eye. If you think she’s PMSing, she probably is. Forego saying “You’re PMSing aren’t you?” or “It must be that time of the month.” Keep those thoughts to yourself and prepare for a few days of irrational behavior.
Don’t comment about how she’s acting
Saying “I know how you feel” or “I understand” will result in her resenting you at the moment because, as a guy, you don’t have to deal with it. Do not tell her to “calm down” or “relax.” In addition, never say something like “My sister doesn’t PMS as bad as you do.”. The closest example I can give to what her reaction will probably be like is that of The Incredible Hulk. One minute she’s fine but say something along those lines and she’ll transform into an angry person capable of ripping your limbs off.
Skip the annoying habits
Everyone has annoying habits that their significant other normally puts up with because it’s not a big enough deal to constantly bring up. Rest assured doing these things while she’s PMSing will probably be a big deal and result in a conversation, argument, tears or all of the above. For those few days, make a conscious effort to curb the annoying habits.
Help with cravings
A major sign that a woman is PMSing is a change in diet. She’ll likely crave random random foods, look at certain foods like she’s in love with them and eat more food than a football team. Her eating habits may be a bit erratic and so will her reaction if she doesn’t get what she’s craving. One of my best friends, who happens to be a guy, called me one day while I was close to hysterics because I didn’t have Doritos. On his way home he kindly brought me some and didn’t make a comment when he almost lost an arm as I ripped open the bag the minute he handed it to me. Follow his example; if she’s really craving something, get it for her if you can. When she devours it like she hasn’t eaten in days, don’t say a word about it.
Skip the negative comments
Avoid negative comments at all costs unless you want to increase the chances that the woman is going to burst into tears, question if you think she’s something she’s not (i.e. fat) or go into a rant. Don’t make negative comments about her cooking, how she looks, her loved ones or her job. This includes making jokes that you think are funny that, while PMSing, she probably will not find funny in the least. Apologize quickly but don’t even try to justify what was said.
Help her
If she asks you to do something for her, avoid saying “Can’t you do it?” or “Do I have to?” and make the effort to help her. Surprise her with a little gesture such as a home cooked dinner. PMSing can be quite frustrating between the emotions and thoughts not to mention many women get annoyed at themselves for feeling and acting like they normally wouldn’t. Helping her can mean more to her than you realize.
If you want to talk to her about how she acts while she’s PMSing or need to talk to her about an issue that could stress her out, wait until after her period is over. Bringing it up while she’s PMSing will probably result in an argument. She’ll think she’s right and you’re wrong and nothing will get accomplished. Waiting will allow more of a chance of talking to her rationally and, if necessary, give her a chance to apologize.

South Park: Honey Boo Boo
South Park is an American animated sitcom created by Trey Parker and Matt Stone for the Comedy Central television network. Intended for mature audiences, the show has become famous for its crude language and dark, surreal humor that lampoons a wide range of topics. When she’s sending mixed signals
She texts you enthusiastically one minute, then ignores your calls for three days. She says yes to a date, but then she accidentally makes other plans. How do you deal with a woman who can’t seem to make up her mind as to whether she wants you or not?
Play it Cool
Getting frustrated about her inability to decide will only serve to scare her away. If she thinks you are desperate for her, she won’t think twice about being a bitch to you in not returning calls. Show her that you don’t need her, that you have an awesome social life of your own which doesn’t require her involvement, by not making a big deal about it when she cancels your date. As any stud knows, acting nonchalant will make you seem more desirable to her and she will have more of an inclination to chase you.
-Is She Playing Hard to Get?
Sending mixed signals is often just a woman trying to play hard to get, confusing you in the meantime. That she sometimes puts in an effort, or seems receptive to your efforts, shows that she is at least slightly interested. She could just be playing by the book, and trying not to seem too easy. But if she keeps up her contradictory act for too long, you can be pretty sure that she is just flirting for the fun of it and it won’t go any further. If she’s been playing you beyond a reasonable amount of time, then move on to someone worth your effort.
-Phone a Friend
If you think she’s worth the effort, you can do a little investigating to find out her intentions. If you have any mutual friends that you’re both close to, you’re in luck. Mention to the mutual friend that you are after this particular lady, and explain how she’s being difficult to chase. Perhaps the friend is already aware of the situation and can offer some insight, or can do some subtle investigating on your behalf. If you don’t have a mutually close friend, you can take a risk and target one of her friends – but only if you’re already acquainted. It would be a little weird to contact a friend of hers that you’ve never met out of the blue, demanding to know what’s going on. If you do go the route of phoning a friend – although perhaps a Facebook message would be a little less confrontational – be aware that the friend could tell her you asked. So only try this if you don’t mind laying your cards on the table, and letting her know (through a third party) that you’re very much interested.
The most important thing to remember in this situation is not to get too disheartened, and not to take it personally. As much as it’s a cliché to say “it’s not you, it’s me”, in this case it really isn’t you. Some women are just frustrating like that. Hell, even Katy Perry sings about this problem in her hit “Hot N Cold”- and nobody in their right mind would go cold on the lovely Katy Perry! Give her time to make up her mind if she’s worth it, but don’t let her string you along.
Stupid Things People Do Because of Love
We’ve all done it – something dumb, or not very well thought out, or just plain crazy when we look back on it, just because we were in love and wanted to make our sweetie happy. It’s not wrong to do something dumb for love, and sometimes you might discover a whole new hobby or cuisine or something fun just because you were willing to be “stupid” and try (fill in the blank) for the sake of your relationship.
For instance, I was living with someone once who really wanted to do yoga, but didn’t want to do it alone. Ask anyone who knows me, or just take a really good look at my profile picture. My body was never meant to be turned into a pretzel. Period. A bagel, maybe, but not a pretzel! Unfortunately, my sweetie’s body was much more yoga-friendly, and before I could say “namaste” I was sitting in a dance studio/Eastern temple sort of place, trying to put limbs and other body parts where they were not meant to go! In the middle of this short-lived flirtation with the flexible arts, a friend asked me how it was going. My answer? “I have never been so blissfully and so peacefully in so much pain in my life!”
However, being in love, or even thinking you’re in love, is no excuse for being irresponsible or engaging in risky behavior. I asked my friend Glenn what the dumbest thing he’d ever done because of love and his answer was, “Had sex with my girlfriend without a condom. The consequences, in pre Roe vs. Wade times, were very bad.” No, I did not ask him what the consequences were. I can make an educated guess or three, considering the days when abortions weren’t legal, and you probably can, too. And this was back when unprotected sex couldn’t kill you. Now it can. Think about it.
Even worse is when you wake up one day and realize that the stupid thing you’ve done for love is give up a big part of who you are and what you believe to be right. This happened to my brother-in-law-to-be, Michael, in a previous relationship. Michael is a vegetarian, whether for health reasons, ethical reasons, or both, I can’t say because I’ve never asked. But he chooses not to eat meat, and that is his right. Apparently an ex didn’t think so. Michael told me, “He wouldn’t even attempt to prepare anything vegetarian and he wouldn’t eat anything I prepared that was vegetarian. He also got upset when he’d prepare chicken and I wouldn’t eat it. Corset making was a specialized sub-sector of the garment industry. Tailors called staymakers were experts in the fitting and forming of corsets, which were sewn laboriously by hand. With the development of elastic textiles, corsets eventually became more yielding. Around the 1930s, women’s fashions started emphasizing a more natural figure and the corset gradually became extinct. The closest thing to a modern corset is the all-in-one foundation undergarment.
